Due to inclement weather,  Hong Kong Fest is rescheduled to Sunday, 5/19, from 4-8pm.

The first ever New England Hong Kong Festival will be taking place at 90 Union Square this coming Saturday.

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne invites the Somerville community to join the first New England Hong Kong Festival on Sunday, May 19 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. (rain date May 19) at 90 Union Square. The event is organized by the volunteer-led New England Hong Kong Festival team in collaboration with the City of Somerville, Somerville Arts Council, and the SomerViva Office of Immigrant Affairs. 

The festival celebrates Hong Kong culture in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. Event highlights include:

Free games and cultural activities including dragon boat display and demonstration, chess, shuttlecock, button-making, story-sharing.

Vendor booths offering Asian and Hong Kong-inspired, food, art, toys, books, and crafts for purchase from small local businesses.

A lion dance performance by Woo Ching.

Musical performances by Golden Voices Music and Opera Club, Juksing, Barry and friends, and Nicole showcasing Cantonese opera, Cantopop covers, originals, and Cantonese classics. 

Informational booths staffed by the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and SomerViva Office of Immigrant Affairs.

This event is part of the Somerville ArtsUnion series an initiative supported by the City of Somerville to enhance the cultural economic development of Union Square.
