The submarine races

A quick drive to Medford’s Mystic Lakes was a prime make out area. Parking there was nicknamed “watching the submarine races.” The cops were pretty laid-back dealing with all the cars. You never knew when that flashlight would shine in your face but it was worth the cat and mouse game. I have my own memories about parking down the lanes and here are more comments:

“Those were fun times. Running from the MDC police, swimming to the middle of the lake so they couldn’t catch you.”

“I do indeed. I used to go there in the afternoon and wax my car for the Saturday night races.”

“Lol, haven’t heard that line in ages”

“We spent years searching. Never did see any, but I guess that we really didn’t look that hard.”

“We’d pull in at the boat club. But there was always this perv walking around looking in windows.”

Having a place for a young couple to be alone was tough. The car was one of our only choices. Back in the 60’s and 70’s most cars had huge back seats and plenty of leg room.

It’s funny how someone mentioned the Mystic Lakes and submarine races immediately popped into my mind. That’s why it is so much fun thinking about the old days. We had no computers, no cell phones and no computers, yet we were always doing something fun. I am very glad I grew up in those awesome times.
