Opera on Tap Boston and Simons Shoes present Flowers and Opera on Friday June 7, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Bow Market in Somerville. Free and open to the public, Flowers and Opera is sponsored by the Somerville Arts Council and the Mass Cultural Council, and will feature live opera singers, free flowers from Nellie’s Wildflowers, and a food drive.

The Flowers and Opera performance series emerged in partnership with Simons Shoes at the height of the pandemic as a way to safely bring music and community to neighborhoods during a time of isolation and uncertainty. It has since grown into an immersive community-focused event that includes a collection of charitable donations for local food pantries. The concert is set against a backdrop of flowers which are passed out to attendees at the concert’s conclusion.

Opera on Tap Boston presents performers from their roster of professional classical singers whose credits include work with top companies like The Metropolitan Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, The Boston Pops, Boston Symphony Orchestra and more. They’ll be having a drink, letting their hair down, and welcoming audiences into what feels like an after-hours backstage party. The performer line-up will include singers Jessica Graves, Kathryn McKellar, Erin Merceruio-Nelson, Arielle Rogers-Wilkey, Nicola Santoro, Kathryn Tolley, Isabelle Zeledon, and pianist Sally Naredla.

Executive Director Kathryn McKellar says, “These concerts feature local performers in an innovative local venue, raising awareness and funds for local organizations.” As for the program of music, she says, “We’ll have a mix of famous arias, pieces not found in the standard canon, and cabaret and musical theater songs that audience members can hum along to.”
