Our poet writes: My name is Sydney DelMastro and I am from Seekonk, MA and currently a student at Endicott College majoring in English with a concentration in Secondary Education. I work as a photographer at Endicott, and I love to read, write, go on hikes and play the ukulele. I also identify as a gym rat, animal lover, and plant mom.
Tentative Whispers
I love the sound of midnight rain
the quiet broken by its tap upon my window
the tentative whispers of its footfalls upon my roof
The world is asleep, and yet I am awake
and so is the rain
making the silent moments feel less
alone
I find it comforting,
the tapping of teardrops against the walls
like an old friend knocking on the door
or a lover throwing pebbles against the window
Many times I have mirrored the rain
letting the water flow from within
as it poured from above,
but tonight I sit and listen
as I know it might be the last time
I will get to do so
not so alone
— Sydney DelMastro
