On April 13, the City of Somerville Office of Mobility, Ward 7 Councilor Judy Pineda Neufeld and Mayor Katjana Ballantyne hosted an open house for the entire Somerville community to discuss designs for Broadway between Clarendon Avenue and Alewife Brook Parkway.
This open house is part of a series of events that hopefully can help the community get updated on the reconstruction of the sidewalks to make it safe for all people on the streets in Somerville, whether they are walking or wheeling, biking, taking the bus, or even driving. All of this is part of the city’s Pavement and Sidewalk Management Program.
Some things that were discussed during the meeting included the Somerville Bicycle Network Plan, and the anticipated project timeline of when it should be completed. For now, the final design should be done within late 2024 to early 2025.
With virtual community meetings, a public input map, street outreach and community events, safety feedback and proposed design services, as well as direct engagement alongside communications on social media, the City of Somerville hopes to help make the streets safer.
