Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Parking Department are reminding all residents that regular street sweeping schedules officially resume Monday, April 1, and will continue through December 31, 2024.
Somerville’s street cleaning program is an essential public works program that not only keeps our city cleaner but also reduces the risk of flooding and icing due to clogged storm drains.
Residents and community members can check street signs to know when parking is unavailable due to sweeping. A recurring pattern was chosen in order to allow residents to plan ahead.
Find your street sweeping schedule and avoid parking tickets
On designated street sweeping days, vehicles must be moved from the side of the street being swept, as noted on signs posted on each street.
The penalty for not complying with street sweeping parking regulations is a $50 fine. Community members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the street sweeping schedule in areas where they park. The best way to do this is to read the signs on the street when you park. You can also sign up for street sweeping reminders.
