Proposed improvements

Workers will replace both superstructures. The Maffa Way Bridge will include a 10‑foot, 2‑way bike lane separated from traffic with a raised median. A sidewalk of varying width up to 11’-10” wide will be added on the south side of the bridge. The Mystic Avenue bridge will include a 12‑foot wide shared use path on the north side of the roadway for pedestrians and bicycles. Both bridges include dedicated bus lanes.

How will this affect you?

The Maffa Way/Mystic Avenue Bridge Superstructure Replacements Project will replace two deteriorated bridge superstructures that carry vehicles and pedestrians over the MBTA’s Orange Line and Commuter Rail in Boston and Somerville. This construction project will also improve bicycle, pedestrian, and transit facilities.
