This free and family-friendly celebration makes spirits bright on Saturday, December 2 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. (rain date 12/3) throughout Union Square in Somerville.
30+ local businesses entice customers to keep small strong with festive fares. Be sure not to miss the permanent jewelry pop-up and festive goody bag at Clementine Hair Studio; South American sweets and treats at Union Market; Panettone (Pan Dulce) empanadas at Buenas; local music showcases and teen-run raffles at Somernova; Winter Fest, featuring warm drinks & treats, crafts, and construction equipment for exploring at Boynton Yards; strolling carolers from Revels, among many other holiday happenings. Visitors can Stroll the Square with ease using FREE hop-on-hop-off shuttles thanks to Boynton Yards.
“For the 9th year, Union Square is getting dressed up with merry window displays, over the top inflatables, DJs, and carolers to make spirits bright this holiday season.” said Jessica Eshleman, Executive Director of Union Square Main Streets who produces the Holiday Stroll. “Shopping local in our unique and spirited neighborhood offers something for everyone, naughty or nice, while keeping more of your dollars in Somerville – and small strong.”
Three people who bundle up and come on down will win cash prizes, with winners announced on December 8. People who Stroll will score multiple chances to win $100 when participating in these activities:
-
Stroll the Square Challenge: Stay loyal to local Union Square businesses by shopping, dining, and strolling. Pick up a stamp card at information booths on the Union Square Plaza and at Bow Market or Union Square Main Streets’ Keeping Small Strong Street Team offices at 26 Union Square, or print at home, and collect stamps when visiting participating Union Square businesses during the Stroll. Return completed stamp cards, generously underwritten by Tiny Turns Paperie, at information booths or snap a photo of the card and send to Stroll@unionsquaremain.org. **Multiple entries encouraged.**
-
Visit incredible inflatables at the Festivus Village: Snap an Elfie-Selfie, post and tag @unionsquarems & #LoveUnionSquare on social media for a chance to win one of three $100 prizes. Thanks to Somernova, the chance to win is just a selfie away.
“Too often with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, customers may look for what seems quick and convenient and overlook the importance of keeping it local,” said Joe Carreiro, Somerville native and owner of participating business El Potro Mexican Bar & Grill. “The small shops, restaurants, retail and service providers who are our neighbors and friends…this is who we are and what we in Union Square are all about.”
The 9th Annual Holiday Stroll is presented by Union Square Main Streets, Inc. and made possible by generous support from Tiny Turns Paperie, Boynton—Yards, a DLJ + Leggat McCall Project, SOMERNOVA, USQ, Play Union, Revels, Rockland Trust, and Thalia Tringo & Associates Real Estate.
