City supporting two local gift drives for children and teens sponsored by Toys for Local Children and MAMA’s Mutual Aid Medford and Somerville

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne announces the city’s annual support of local holiday gift and toy donation drives. In the giving spirit of the season, the city is placing toy and gift donation boxes at city buildings, libraries, and firehouses through Friday, December 22. Donated gifts will support two community gift drives for families in need of presents for children and teens this holiday season.

If you are able and wish to donate, please bring toys and gifts for children of all ages and age-appropriate gifts, clothes, and winter boots for teens. All gifts should be new and unwrapped. All gifts will be distributed to families by two local organizations: Toys for Local Children and the MAMA’s Mutual Aid Medford and Somerville.  More information on their gift drives and other ways to help support the drives can be found at mutualaidmamas.com and toysforlocalchildren.org.

“Our community is fortunate to have such committed local organizations run by caring volunteers working to help families have a festive holiday season. I also want to give a big shout out to DPW, our Department of Public Works, which sets up our donation boxes and manages gift collection from all our city gift drop-off sites every year – all while also doing the work to decorate the city with lights and greenery to celebrate the season and supporting logistics for our holiday events. And thank you in advance to all who are able and willing to donate to these thoughtful drives for gifts, toys, clothes, and winter boots for our local youths,” said Mayor Katjana Ballantyne.
