Somerville High School (SHS) senior students in the Carpentry Program have completed another successful community project.
Students from the SHS CTE Carpentry program worked with administrators at Capuano Early Education Center throughout the design and construction process of these wonderful additions to the school community.
The students gained valuable real-world skills and experience as they navigated the project from the initial work request for a school lending library, to project completion. They were responsible for drawing plans, selecting materials and estimating the project before presenting their proposals to school personnel.
Originally planned as one lending library, the thoughtful designs by students encourage school administrators to request all three lending library designs be built.
This was a rewarding project for the students with visible community impact, as the libraries are already in frequent use.
The CTE Carpentry program and its students pride itself on the variety of community projects completed through student dedication every year. They send a special thank you to the SHS Art Department for their collaboration on the final painting process.
