Richard J. (67) Hoey of Braintree, MA (formerly of Somerville, MA), passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Devoted father of Margaret “Maggie” Hoey of La Jolla, CA and Richard “Ricky” B. Hoey of Providence, RI (both formerly of Braintree). Loving brother of William Hoey of Lynnfield, MA, Marie Cimetti of Scituate, MA, Judith Chisholm of Plymouth, MA, Carol Anderson and Teresa Kupris, both of Braintree, MA, Noreen Farrar of Brookline, MA, Gail Garda of Hampton Falls, NH, Elaine Kelly of West Point, VA, and Robert Hoey of Somerville, MA. Predeceased by his parents, William Hoey of Bourne, MA and Hazel Hoey of Somerville, MA, and siblings, Ruth Perry of Tewksbury, MA and Charles Hoey of Brighton, MA. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Memorial visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 North Main Street, Randolph, MA from 4:00-6:00 p.m. followed by a service at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Rick was born in Somerville, MA on September 12, 1956. He grew up in a large Catholic family, the eleventh child out of twelve. There were eight girls and four boys. He attended St. Catherine’s School and was an altar boy in his youth at St. Catherine of Genoa Church. He was an adorable child with blonde hair and was chosen one year to be the “Christ Child” in the May Procession. After grammar school, Rick attended Somerville High School where he played ice hockey and graduated in 1974.

Rick was a lifelong printer and took immense pride in his work. He was introduced to the commercial printing business at the age of 14 when he began working at Excelsior Press in Boston, MA, apprenticing under Arthur Felicani. Later in his career, Rick worked for several high end printing companies, including Taylor Communications in Avon, MA, MOO Print Ltd. in East Providence, RI, and most recently, Polygraphix Printing in Braintree, MA. He was the go-to printer of choice that everyone reached out to for business cards, wedding invitations, etc. Rick was thoughtful and generous and always offered his services free of charge to family and friends.

Rick was also an avid Boston sports fan cheering on the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox, and New England Patriots. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, cribbage, golf and ice hockey. Rick had a passion for Diet Coke and loved the lazy days of summer when he could visit with family and friends at White Horse Beach in Plymouth, MA, always referring to it as “his happy place.”

Rick was a wonderful Dad, who adored his two children, Maggie and Ricky. He loved them more than anything and never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was of them.

Rick will be sorely missed by his family and friends and will live in our hearts forever.
