Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Ward 7 City Councilor Judy Pineda Neufeld, and City staff invite you to a virtual community meeting about transportation safety improvements on Broadway between Clarendon Avenue and Alewife Brook Parkway (West Broadway). The meeting will take place Monday, October 23, at 6:00 p.m. on Zoom.

The City is reconstructing the street and sidewalks on West Broadway as part of the citywide Pavement and Sidewalk Management Program. Broadway is one of the most used streets in Somerville, and its reconstruction presents an opportunity to redesign the street to make it safer for all users. West Broadway serves as a gateway to the city from Arlington, North Cambridge, and Alewife Brook Parkway and Greenway Bike Path. It carries the MBTA Route 87, 88, and 89 buses and is home to many residents and local businesses. West Broadway is designated as a key connection within Somervile’s Bicycle Network Plan, which proposes protected bike lanes in at least one direction between Clarendon Avenue and Alewife Brook Parkway, and protected bike lanes in both directions between Endicott Avenue and Russell Road. 

Join this community meeting to learn more, share your experiences using West Broadway, and discuss what changes you would like included in its redesign.  

The City will continue community engagement through the fall and present a conceptual design for feedback next summer. You can also take a 5-minute survey on the project website to help inform the street’s redesign.
