Step aside fluff, the fuzz has arrived. The ninth Boston Fuzzstival finds a new home in Somerville’s Center for Arts at the Armory. Presented by the Boston-based, volunteer-run show series, Illegally Blind, the all-ages music festival features 22 bands spanning hip-hop to rock.
The local and regional underground music celebration began at Cambridge’s Middle East Nightclub and Restaurant, enjoyed a brief stint at the Charles River Speedway in Brighton, and has settled in the city whose artist-per-capita is second only to New York City.
Genres are melded to form mesmerizing days of musical programming. The (New England) Patriots, a post-core art-punk trio, brush shoulders with the Jeanines’ 30-minute mix of 60s folk-pop and 80s DIY pop. Layzi’s lo-fi bedroom pop sound extends a hand to Boston’s own Paper Lady, a 5-piece indie dream rock outfit.
The lack of a through sonic line demonstrates Illegally Blind’s commitment to providing an outlet for regional artists who only conform to unconformity. The Boston Fuzzstival’s amalgamation of sound, attitude, and style places it in a league of its own.
The Boston Fuzzstival takes place on Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16 at the Center for Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland Ave. #1c, Somerville. Two-day passes are on sale for $35, with single day tickets pricing $22 each. Visit www.illegallyblindpresents.com to snag your tickets.
