Like many others, my heart ached as live performance faded to oblivion during the COVID-strewn years. Since then, we have witnessed (and perhaps participated) in the post-pandemic concert boom. This renaissance proves the power of live performance and the creative force behind it.

So why is it so difficult for local musicians to hone their craft?

Budding and tenured musicians alike face the challenge of finding space to create. Rehearsal opportunities may appear as an unlocked university practice room, your downstairs neighbor’s last nerve, or, to our collective dismay, it may not appear at all. The Somerville Music Spaces hopes to offer another option: to create unhindered.

Jessica Jacobs Tybursky and Mike Tybursky, Somerville Music Spaces co-founders and professional musicians, created the space to bridge the gap between conception and creation. The comfortable and affordable business invites all creatives to flex their musical muscle, meet with collaborators, and create high-quality recordings.

The business offers seven private, acoustically treated rehearsal and performance spaces starting at $20/hour. Although the design of each room caters to acoustic, non-amplified instruments and groups, the business welcomes community gatherings, non-musical performances, dance rehearsal, etc.

Housed in the CALA development between Davis and Teele Square, the building itself has been consciously designed with aesthetic appeal and accessibility in mind. Self-service entry ensures low costs and a low barrier to entry for all seeking creative asylum.

The presence of local talent has never been a question. Perhaps this stimied the development of a space for local musicians to thrive. The Somerville Music Spaces fills that gap and then some, providing creatives affordable, high-quality rehearsal spaces and the ability to connect to their greatest resource – each other.

Somerville Music Spaces is located at 1060 Broadway Suite C101B, Somerville, MA 02144. Online at: https://www.somervillemusicspaces.com.
