The Sumner Tunnel will be closed seven days a week from July 5 to August 31. During this time, traffic will be diverted through signed detour routes.
The Sumner Tunnel is undergoing a restoration that began in the spring of 2022. This work requires the tunnel to be closed to traffic periodically.
Fall 2023 to Winter 2023: Weekend closures
The Sumner Tunnel will be closed on weekends from Fall 2023 to Winter 2023. During this time, traffic will be diverted through signed detour routes.
Closed
The Sumner Tunnel is closed the following weekends. Weekend closures are from Friday night at 11:00 p.m. to Monday morning at 5:00 a.m.

- Weekend of September 15
- Weekend of September 22
- Weekend of September 29
- Weekend of October 13
- Weekend of October 20
- Weekend of October 27
- Weekend of November 3
- Weekend of November 10
Open
The Sumner Tunnel is open the following weekends
- Weekend of September 1 – Labor Day
- Weekend of October 9 – Columbus Day
- Weekend of November 17 – Pre-Thanksgiving
- Weekend of November 24 – Thanksgiving
Summer 2024: Full Closure
The Sumner Tunnel will be closed seven days a week in the summer of 2024 from July to August. During this time, traffic will be diverted through other signed detour routes.
