Applications are now open for approximately $1.5 million in Somerville Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds to support open space/recreation and historic preservation projects. The application process has several steps.

Applicants should note the following deadlines:

  • Friday, June 2, 12:30 p.m.: Application Intent Forms Due

    • All applicants other than City of Somerville departments and divisions should submit an Application Intent form. This will ensure CPA staff can provide the support and coordination needed to complete a successful application.  Intent forms are required for private/nonprofit applicants seeking funding for projects that entail City-owned property and are strongly encouraged for all other applicants.

  • Friday, July 14, 12:30 p.m.: Eligibility Determination Forms Due

    • ThEligibility Determination form allows the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) to determine if a proposed project qualifies for CPA funds. The CPC will contact applicants to let them know whether their proposal is eligible. Projects that do qualify will then be invited to enter the full application process.

  • Friday, September 15, 4:30 p.m.: Full Applications Due

    • For projects deemed to be eligible for CPA funding, full applications are due September 15, 2023

In addition to these funds, approximately $1.5 million is also expected to be available to support community housing projects. The Somerville Affordable Housing Trust manages a separate application process for affordable housing project requests, as the housing arm of the Community Preservation Committee. To learn more, visit somervillema.gov/sahtf.

Since its adoption in 2012, the Somerville CPA program has supported over 50 unique housing, historic, and open space/recreation projects or programs through awards of more than $35 million, including $5 million in matching funds from the State.

All application instructions and forms are available at somervillema.gov/CPA. Please contact Roberta Cameron, Community Preservation Act Manager, with questions at rcameron@somervillema.gov.
