Life in the Ville by Jimmy Del Ponte

Mike’s, Angelina’s and White Sport are among my favorite pizza makers in Somerville. Back in the day I enjoyed a good pizza from speedy Pizza in Davis Square. I threw the question out there looking for Somerville’s favorite pizza joints.

“Used to be Reno’s Sub shop Beacon St., Somerville, Mass, as I was growing up in the “70’s, then was Leone’s and Mama Lisa’s.”

“Leone’s Sicilian yum in my yum.”

“ZaZa next to Premiere on Broadway … WOW!!! If you haven’t tried them yet, please do! We also like Pepi’s on Medford Street!”

“Back in the day Mama Gina’s when Tony ran it.”

“Back in the day La Hacienda!”

“I grew up in Somerville and now I live in New Hampshire. To get good pizza I have to drive down to Mama Lisa’s.”

“In Somerville, Mamma Lisa’s.

Favorite all time: Cafe Adventura (or something like that), The Garage in Harvard Sq. Long gone.”

“Leone’s Sicilian yum in my yum!”

“The Paddock back in the day hands down!! They had the best pizza!”

“My favorite Pizza Place was Somerville House of Pizza. I understand that Matt Damon used to deliver, back in the day.”

“Mikes in Davis Sq.”

“Leone’s and Mama Lisa’s HANDS DOWN!! is this even a question???”

“You are all sleeping on Angelina’s man! No question it’s the best pizza left in the city.”

“My first pizza was at the Continental restaurant, a long time ago.”

“Was the Continental, Lucy’s, La Hacienda, Primo’s and now that they are all gone, I have to go with Pini’s.”

Speedy Pizza, The Paddock, and The Venice Cafe are tied for my faves back then. Somerville is alive and well serving delicious pizza while remembering the joints of the old days.
