The Somerville Arts Council and Michael Talbot present Expansion of the Garden, A Journey Into Mindfulness exhibit in the Armory, a space operated by the City of Somerville/Somerville Arts Council, beginning on Saturday, February 25, with an opening reception on Friday, February 24.
Expansion Of The Garden showcases works by Michael Talbot initially displayed at Urbanica Gallery in Roxbury under the title Warriors In The Garden, as well as new additions by collaborating artist Phoebe Warner as a means of expanding upon the original theme and concept.
The body of work on display serves as an exploration and appreciation for individuals within our respective communities who often go unnoticed or underappreciated, while highlighting and focusing on the importance of practicing awareness of self and others. For the opening, Sean Webster (Copper Collective) will be hosting an introductory mindfulness session/demonstration that will incorporate healing through art, connection, and various other mindfulness practices such as breath work, movement, and meditation. Designed to help individuals connect with themselves and others, set intentions, chakra alignment, and experience healing in a collective way.
Growing up in Jamaica, Michael had always had a strong desire to inspire and speak to others through art. In 2012 he left his home country to live in the United States and began pursuing his artistic dreams doing illustration, graphic design, and animation, and has since been working as a Boston-based freelance artist on a wide range of projects, murals, exhibitions, and showcases. www.talbotsart.com, www.instagram.com/talbotsart.
