Somerville girls track beats Cambridge

Led by a solid group of contributors, Somerville High girls track cruised to a 60-26 win over Cambridge in Wednesday’s Greater Boston League meet. With the win, the Highlanders remained unbeaten at 3-0 overall.

In the two-mile run, Pristine Mei delivered a winning time of 12:54 while Nicole Gerard recorded a victory in the hurdles en route to a time of 7.2. Iaritza Menjivar also recorded a solid performance in the mile run en route to a winning time of 6:06.

In the 55-dash, Gelynne Berger captured the top spot with a winning time of 6.5 while Michelle Meranda earned a win in the 300 meters en route to a time of 39.9.

Leading the way in the 600 meters was Sasha Garczynski, who recorded a winning time of 1:37.2 while Taija Clark posted a win in the high jump, clearing the bar with a distance of 4-6.

In the relay run, the team of Menjivar, Berger, Meranda and Sabirna Kerr cruised to a winning time of 4:45.

Second place finishers for the Highlanders included Ashley Murphy in the hurdles, who posted a time of 8.2 while Tayla Plett recorded a time of 1:39.5 in the 600. Rita Musello-Kelleher also recorded a second place result in the 1000 meters en route to a time of 3:18 while Melina Garro-Duplisea finished with a time of 6:19 in the mile.

In the shotput, Genard tossed a second place score of 33-1 while Murphy finished third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-4.
