The City of Somerville Urban Forestry Committee (UFC) is now accepting applications for one new member with expertise in urban forestry. Urban forestry expertise may include experience or coursework in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or any other relevant field.
The UFC advises the City on the management and maintenance of all trees and shrubs on public grounds and public ways. Members may also review issues related to the health, maintenance, and protection of trees and shrubs on public grounds and public ways, update the tree inventory, support public education and outreach on urban forestry, and provide comments during permitting review.
The UFC typically meets virtually on the third Thursday of each month from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Members serve three-year terms in a volunteer capacity. All members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.
Applications are due Friday, March 3. Interested candidates should submit a resume and statement of interest by email to Dr. Vanessa Boukili at vboukili@somervillema.gov or by mail to Vanessa Boukili, City of Somerville, OSPCD, 93 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA 02145.
