Man arraigned in connection with fatal stabbing in Somerville

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Chief of Police Charles Femino have confirmed that Darien Burns, 53, of Somerville has been arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury in connection with the fatal stabbing of Joseph Muzzi, 33, of Weymouth that occurred last night inside the Spin Cycle laundromat on Main Street in Somerville.

On Monday night around 7:00 p.m. Somerville Police responded to the laundromat for a reported stabbing. Upon arrival, police located the victim suffering from an apparent stab wound. He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he later died. The suspect, identified as Darien Burns, remained on scene and was arrested.

This case has been referred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and additional charges are possible. This matter, including the motive, is still under investigation by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Somerville Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.

Darien Burns was arraigned Tuesday morning in Somerville District Court. He was held without bail and ordered not to get in touch with any witnesses. A dangerousness  hearing is scheduled for next Thursday.
