Charitable Spice Packs Sold at Curio.com and Morrissey Market Fight Food Insecurity

Thanksgiving is often a lavish feast for most people. But, many go hungry on this holiday. To spice things up and help those in need to access fresh, healthy food, Food For Free and Curio Spice Co. have launched Seasoned Greetings. The charitable curated spice collection is now available for sale at CurioSpice.com and the one-stop online grocery store Morrissey Market. A portion of the proceeds from all Seasoned Greetings packet sales will support the Somerville and Cambridge-based nonprofit’s food rescue and redistribution efforts in more than 20 towns and cities across Eastern Massachusetts.

“The holidays are a time for families to come together and not worry where their next meal is from,” says Marena Burnett, Chief Development Officer of Food For Free. “I can think of no better way this season to help neighbors in need than sharing a meal with loved ones. The flavors, in this beautiful Seasoned Greetings collection, represent the diversity of our communities and proceeds from this initiative enable Food For Free to continue our efforts to provide culturally sensitive foods to uplift communities.”

Food For Free is one of the oldest food rescue organizations in the nation. Founded in 1981, the nonprofit now serves more than 150,000 food insecure Massachusetts residents and rescues 7.5 million pounds of nutritious fresh and prepared foods annually.

Each Seasoned Greetings box includes a minimum $20 donation to Food For Free, recipes, and one jar each of the following seasoning blends: Chili Today!, Sēti Berbere, Sal Agridulce, and Sichuan Five Spice. They are the perfect stocking stuffer or gift to teachers, foodies, and anyone who enjoys supporting local businesses and charitable organizations during the holiday period.

On Thursday, Nov. 10, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Food For Free will host an open house at the organization’s Somerville Packing and Distribution Center, located at 59 Inner Belt Road, during which gift boxes containing the Seasoned Greetings spice collection will be for sale. The cost of the boxes will start at $40. All amounts over $20 will be returned to the nonprofit, so a payment of $100 will result in a donation of $80 to Food For Free.
