The Somerville School Committee is seeking volunteers to serve on the Superintendent Screening Committee. If you are interested in serving on the Screening Committee, please complete the form linked below. 

Before applying for the Superintendent Screening Committee, please review the requirements, responsibilities, and time commitment expected of members:

The Superintendent Screening Committee will include one member from each of the following communities: SPS administration, SPS educators, and SPS parents/guardians.

All members of the Superintendent Screening Committee, working with an outside consultant, are expected to review the Community Superintendent Profile Report, (compiled from focus group and online survey responses), the Superintendent’s job description, all application materials, and then collaborate in order to select and interview candidates in Executive Session. The Screening Committee will forward a small number of finalists to the full School Committee for their consideration and final vote. 

Members of the Superintendent Screening Committee will be required to maintain strict confidentiality of all information discussed throughout the entirety of the process.

The Superintendent Screening Committee requires a minimum commitment of 30 hours in meetings from November through February, with additional meeting time likely required. Participants will also be required to read materials in advance of meetings. Members of the Screening Committee will be required to be available during the evenings of Monday, November 28, 2022 and Tuesday, January 17, 2023 in addition to other dates set by the Chair of the Screening Committee.

Meetings will be held both in person and virtually and will be held sometime between the hours of 4:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Exact meeting start times will be shared as the meetings are scheduled.

Please know that if you are not selected to serve on the committee or you are unable to meet the time requirement, there will be multiple opportunities for you to provide feedback and input in a variety of formats on the selection of the next superintendent. The School Committee and Superintendent Screening Committee will solicit input from stakeholder groups and through surveys over the next few months, beginning in late November or early December.
