There is Poetry in Dorchester
Waiting for my takeout egg rolls, pork fried rice. She tumbles into
the empty restaurant, points at the picture on the wall, just above
me. “Did you know…did you know, SIR, that THAT was Dorchester?
”Without looking, I retort, “back then,” so she smiles; “that was my
world. I built it!” Without ordering anything, she wets her lips and kisses
the door on the way out. Grabbing a brown bag of the day’s sustenance,
I leave, and glance at that picture. It is a glorious technicolor photo
of a Chinese Buddhist temple. I brace against the cold, reach for the door,
wet my lips.
