With the stellar efforts of Kelsey Garrity, the Somerville High girls basketball team delivered a crucial victory. Garrity recorded a season high 27 points as the Highlanders cruised to a 68-34 win over Everett in last Tuesday night’s Greater Boston League match-up at the Brune Field House. The Highlanders currently stand at 4-5 overall.

After a 16-6 first quarter lead, the Highlanders extended the edge to 22-10 at the half before erupting with a 16-4 surge to kick off the third.

“We were able to maintain our intensity in the third quarter,” said coach Shannon Clark. “(Garrity) had a great game, and she was able to dictate the pace of the offense throughout the better part of the game.”

Garrity also notched 10 steals and eight rebounds.

In the second quarter, the Highlanders went on a 13 to two  run before reeling off seven unanswered points to close off the third quarter.

Other key contributors for the Highlanders included Mary O’Brien, who recorded 10 points while hauling down five rebounds along with Indira Evora, who chipped in with eight points followed by Shykela McAndrew with six. Rounding out the scoring was Ashley Auciello, Lindsay Rimpel and Ella Tyler who recorded four points apiece along with Marie Silva with three.

With Friday’s contest against Cambridge postponed due to snow, the Highlanders faced off against Norte Dame of Hingham on Tuesday.
