Message from Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley on Primary Night

“I am deeply grateful to the voters in the Massachusetts 7th who took it upon themselves to make their voices heard, to participate in this primary election, and to help chart the future of our communities. I’m so thankful for my family, the dedicated A-Team – our staff, volunteers, and supporters – and I am humbled to be your Democratic nominee to continue representing this diverse and vibrant district in Congress.

This year’s primary falls just a couple days after the anniversary of my first primary win in 2018. As I reflect on the emotion of that night – the hope and the resolve, the expectation and the community – I am so proud of how we have carried the promise of that night forward over the past four years.

In the face of tremendous adversity, our movement has built new tables, uplifted the voices of those who went unheard for too long, and done the work to answer generations of cruel, discriminatory policies with policies that legislate healing, equity, and justice for our communities.

Together, we have delivered millions in federal funds for our communities. We took on abusive, discriminatory banking practices to address the racial wealth gap. We organized to cancel student loan debt for millions of borrowers. And we continue to organize to protect the most marginalized, push back against the criminalization of abortion care, and advance true healthcare justice.

I am in awe of the collective power of our community-driven movement for bold, necessary change.

And we are just getting started. In 2018, we declared that ‘Change Can’t Wait.’ It still can’t. It can’t wait for the single parent struggling to pay for childcare and put food on the table. It can’t wait for the commuters who struggle to get to work or school on public transit. It can’t wait for the families at risk of becoming unhoused by rising rents or displaced by rising sea levels. It can’t wait for so many of our friends and neighbors.

Together, we’ll run to win in November. Together, we’ll build on the progress we’ve made. Together, we’ll continue to bring about real lasting change for our communities.

Thank you for your faith in me, for your vote, and for your partnership.”
