Open Positions: One:Term: Three years
The City of Somerville seeks one registered Democrat to serve on the Board of Elections Commissioners. The Board consists of four people who represent each of the two leading political parties (Democratic and Republican), as defined in Chapter 50, Section 1 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
The Board supports all functions of the Elections Department and assumes nearly all responsibilities relating to primaries and elections in Somerville. Commissioners supervise all official elections and recounts, assist in testing voting equipment, and oversee the accurate tabulation of all voting machine results at the end of each election night. They also attend occasional meetings as needed.
Commissioners earn a monthly stipend of $318. Applicants must be registered to vote in Somerville and cannot be a member of any other Somerville board or commission. Commissioners must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and have access to a vehicle on all official City of Somerville election days in order to deliver sealed absentee ballots to individual polling locations if needed. Applicants should be able to lift a voting machine (approximately 30 pounds).
