Open Positions: Four;Term: Three years
The Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) seeks four new members, and Somerville residents are encouraged to apply. Three of the openings must be filled by people who identify as having a disability, and one must be filled by a Somerville resident who is a family member of a person with a disability.
The SCPD serves critical functions in the city, such as coordinating and carrying out programs to meet the needs of people with disabilities. Additionally, commissioners provide information, review policies, and make recommendations on issues affecting people with disabilities. The SCPD works collaboratively with the City’s ADA Coordinator, who also serves as the staff liaison.
Commissioners must be able to commit to at least five hours of service per month. The SCPD meets every second Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Members are confirmed by the City Council. These are volunteer positions.
