The City of Somerville and Street Plans, an urban planning and research-advocacy firm, are collaborating to design a bicycle network plan that would allow cyclists of any age or ability to safely ride to anywhere in the city.

This will be done by designating specific routes and corridors as bicycle infrastructure, connecting gaps that exist within the current bike network, and by creating a guide for further design improvements. With this project the city hopes to increase safety for road users and prioritize walking, biking, and transit access to reduce emissions from personal vehicles.

On Friday, June 17, the team shared their draft bicycle network plan with the public at a pop-up event where attendees asked about the project and gave feedback.

The network draft, showing all proposed new routes as well as upgrades to existing infrastructure, will be outlined more formally in an online meeting on June 23 at 6:00 p.m. Questions about the project can be sent to transportation@somervillema.gov.
