Applications are now open for more than $1.6 million in Somerville Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds to support open space/recreation and historic preservation projects. The application process has several steps. Applicants should note the following deadlines:
-
Friday, June 24, 12:30 p.m.: Application intent forms due
New this year, all applicants other than City of Somerville departments and divisions should submit an Application Intent Form. This will ensure CPA staff can provide the support and coordination needed to complete a successful application. -
Monday, August 1, 4:30 p.m.: Eligibility determination forms due
This brief form allows the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) to determine if a proposed project qualifies for CPA funds. The CPC will contact applicants to let them know whether their proposal is eligible. Projects that do qualify will then be invited to enter the full application process. -
Wednesday, October 5, 4:30 p.m.: Full applications due
For projects deemed to be eligible for CPA funding, full applications are due October 5.
All application instructions and forms are available at somervillema.gov/cpa. Please contact Roberta Cameron, Community Preservation Act Manager, with questions at rcameron@somervillema.gov.
An additional $1.6 million is expected to be available to support community housing projects. The Somerville Affordable Housing Trust manages a separate application process for affordable housing project requests, as the housing arm of the Community Preservation Committee. Since its adoption in 2012, the Somerville CPA program has awarded more than $30 million, including $5 million in matching funds from the state, to support 50 unique housing, historic, and open space/recreation projects or programs throughout Somerville.
