Philip Henry Vokrot, 86, resident of Cobble Hill in Somerville, MA, died peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on April 29, surrounded by his beloved wife and three children. Born in Pennsylvania to parents who emigrated from Latvia, Philip and his two sisters worked on the family’s Bucks County farm growing up. Philip graduated from Quakertown High School and Ursinus College. His college years were interrupted by service in the United States Army. Philip began his working life in marketing at the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in Lancaster, PA. In 1975, Philip joined Cornell Dubilier Electronics (CDE), a New Bedford, MA corporation as Materials Manager for CDE’s manufacturing plant in Taiwan. In 1979, he was promoted to General Manager and resided in Taiwan until 1982. Upon his return to the US, Philip held subsequent positions for several electronics companies in both Massachusetts and Florida before his retirement.
Philip’s relocation abroad stoked a love of travel that he shared with his family, organizing trips to Greece, Italy, France, Thailand, The Philippines, and Hong Kong. He and his wife bowled competitively in leagues for many years, and he golfed as often as he could. Later in life, he developed a passion for rollercoasters and amusement parks. Philip was a devoted father to his three children. He had unending enthusiasm for their interests and proudly watched each one grow up and start families of their own. His Christian faith was a constant source of strength and inspiration.
Philip bequeathed his body to The University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA through the anatomical gift program. Internment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery will follow at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Anli Vokrot; daughters Stacey Vokrot-Mello (Alan); Chase Poffenberger (Brien); and son Peter Vokrot (Julie) and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Alida Vokrot, and his two sisters, Nellie Spacil and Naomi Anderson.
His gentle spirit will live on in everyone who knew and loved him.
