Happy
New Year in 2010 for everyone – hopefully it's a better year for
everyone and the economy is back in place. To start off 2010 you're
invited to turn out for a short procession/parade from City Hall to
Prospect Hill for the annual ceremony commemorating the raising of the
Grand Union Flag. The procession/parade leaves City Hall at 11:30am and
the ceremony at Prospect Hill tower is set for 12pm. Come join in and
celebrate with your neighbors and friends. Refreshments will be served
immediately afterwards.

Well we were
right last week when we mentioned that former Police Chief Bob Bradley
was coming back to take over the Traffic and Parking Department
temporararily. We were right when we mentioned George Landers was
moving over to Building and Grounds – but slightly wrong about Mike
Foley though…we now hear that Eddie Nuzzo, one of the three project
managers here in Somerville, and well known throughout the city – is
about to become (if not already) head of Inspectional Services Dept. We
wish him and all the others in their new jobs the best in 2010. You
heard it first here in The News.

Congratulations
to Lauren Halloran, daughter of Gale and Former Alderman Jimmy
Halloran, who will be getting married this New Yeas Eve. Lauren and her
husband to be will ring in the New Year celebrating with a grand
wedding reception at the Montvale Plaza in Stoneham. We wish them
happiness and all the best for the future…what a great way to start
off a new year and to have their anniversary on that date every year in
the future.

With less than a week to go
before the new parking regulations go into effect, you better hurry and
get your new residential parking permits. If you are a business and
didn't already order your parking permits, just be careful where your
employees and customers park after January 4th…

Happy
Birthday to Bobby McWaters who turns 19 today (the 30th), he is
currently a sophomore at Harvard and of course the son of well-known
all-around nice guy Rob McWaters – Happy Birthday Bobby.

These
past 7 years of ownership and growth with The Somerville News has been
an effort that a lot of people had a part in. From Bob Publicover's 30
some odd years of ownership to the many individuals that came on board
over the past seven years, we wish to thank everyone for the growth of
The News here in Somerville – Cam Toner, Bobbie Toner, Jim Clark, Tom
Nash, Jamie Norton, John Maloni, Jimmy Del Ponte, Bill Shelton, Doug
Holder, Tim Gager and the many current and past writers here at the
News. And we couldn't be where we are now without the help and
dedication of our former Editor George Hassett – he is a great writer
and gave his all to The News and we all thank him very much. We owe a
lot to the many people both mentioned here, as well as many others over
the years that we didn't mention. To everyone – we wish you and your
families a great new year and the start of a great new decade – and for
us here at The News, which is now online in Cambridge (soon to be in
print) and hopefully in Medford by the end of 2010.
