Daniel Senser

After a long, sleepless night, dawn is approaching,
and so is the poem that will fill your heart to the brim.
I offer you this cup to drink from. May it be, like
the dawn—like the dove—a harbinger for peace.
May you get drunk and recite verses of your own
to the moon and wandering clouds beside the sea.
May you travel far and find your voice and let it
echo across the distances, all the way back to me.
May you return to the place which loves you most—
the place where I reside—here in this provincial town,
where, together, we can lift our songs and let them fly.
