Central Hill Playground ribbon cutting

The playground, now in front of the Somerville Public Library at 79 Highland Avenue, features nature-inspired play structures for toddlers and kids ages 2 through 12, swings, slides, misting poles, a story walk, and seating areas. The renovation was made possible through funding from the Community Preservation Act and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts PARC Grant Program.

The new playground is a larger, relocated version of the old Central Hill playground, which was decommissioned during construction on the new Somerville High School. Its relocation is one element of the Central Hill Master Plan, which both restores and holistically reimagines Central Hill Park, Somerville’s first and oldest public park, as a vibrant, welcoming 21st-century civic and community campus. In its new locale, the playground will provide a lively amenity for library patrons, several area daycares, and children and families visiting Central Hill from across the city.
