Joanne DeSimone Reynolds is the author of two chapbooks, Comes a Blossom and Brought to Our Knees. Early in the pandemic she wrote sixteen ekphrastic poems to accompany the installations for 2020 Art Ramble. The poems can be found at https://theumbrellaarts.org/program/2020-art-ramble. She counts herself a Bagel Bard and is grateful for the support of Boston area presses such as Salamander, Ibbetson Street, Wilderness House, and Cervena Barva. She is currently working on a chapbook from which this poem is taken.

Liminal
As autumn light fades
And all that is distinct about the day
Gives way
To all that is distinct about the night
There stands a tree
The bark of which
Is papery:
A scattering of scales
As if briefed by Justitia
A knot or two
In remembrance of perfection
Branches resting . . . reaching
For cardinal direction
– Body lifted to the winds
