The night before Christmas

On December 24, 2021, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the Ville
There’s houses decorated on all seven hills

The bike lanes keep growing the cyclists love it
While car and truck drivers were told they can shove it
Those speed humps will do your shocks in so go slow
No texting while driving this we all know
We have a new mayor she beat all the rest
Good luck Madam mayor we wish you the best!
I jacked up the furnace to warm up the chill
And I dreaded another great big water bill
The Smoke Shop in Davis alas is no more
Just like Highland Shoe that used to be next door
They’re building more housing and a hotel have you seen?
Across from where The Embassy Lounge used to be
Streets decorated with white plastic stakes
It looks kinda like a big birthday cake
At first all those changes seemed like a pain
But they just want us drivers to stay in our lane
The new high schools done we needed it but
The razing of the old one puts a pain in the gut
From Medford Street just passed where The Paddock used to be
The door of to the auditorium is a sad sight to see
For Christmas how great of a gift it would be
For Santa to bring us 1983
So, some of our family and friends who have passed
Could join us at Christmas for memories and laughs
If everyone came back to life for one night
That would be quite a gift, it would be out of sight
And our dear old friend Santa who never forgets
Would also bring back all our dear parted pets.
We’ve lost friends and family from Covid’s rath
So, get vaccinated and please wear a mask
The Green line extensions are almost here
I can’t wait to see the new Union and Ball Square
God bless our city! The future looks bright!
Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight.
