When You Lose A Best Friend:

Timothy Johnson

When you lose a best friend
It’s like your anchor is being ripped out of the bottom of the sea
And you’re off to float.
Alone.
Isolated.
The cold wind blowing
Howling like a lone gray wolf.
It’s Like a part of you is gone
Like some sort of magic trick.
Your heart is
Broken
Shattered
Into a million pieces.
There’s something missing
Inside of you.
But there is a light
At the end of the hallway.
It is a long walk
But when you reach that light
You know you’re ready.
To go back into the world
To be somebody else’s light.
It will still hurt
On birthdays,
Holidays,
Random days
While walking down the street.
Your heart will sink
When you think
Of them.
You will get out your phone
To tell them the good news
And realize they aren’t there.
You’ll want one more conversation.
One more laugh
One more smile
One more hug.
It may seem like they are gone
But they are looking down
On you
Protecting you
Loving you
Until you meet again.
