Somerville Highlander girls track shines in winter tourney

The Somerville Girls Track team kicked off its season on December 18th in the annual MSTCA Coaches Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Led by several solid performances, the Somerville High girls track team earned a solid performance in the MSTCA Winter Festival held on December 18 at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Earning a top performance in the 55-meter hurdles was Nicole Genard, with a winning time of 8.53 and another win in the long jump, with a winning leap of 17-0.

Other competitors of the Highlanders were Gelynne Berger, Arielle Hachey, Ashley Murphy and Tanisha Page, who competed in the 55 meter dash. In the 300 meters, Jessie Vasquez, Taia Clark, Sabrina Kerr, Gabriella Valenzuela, Mariana Silva and Tory Goyan competed followed by Sasha Garczynski, Celia Conte, Meghan Lynch and Cindy Mei in the 600 meters.

In the 1,000 meters, Siobhan Murray and Emily Mei also participated followed by Iartiza Menjivar, Pristine Mei, Maggie Langwig and Rita Musello-Kelleher in the mile run, Clark also competed in the high jump followed by Ashley Murphy in the long jump. In the shotput, Natalie David and Kim Joseph also competed.
