The Area’s First DIY Photo Studio For Both Amateurs & Professionals to Open on Saturday, September 11
Selfie WRLD, one of the country’s hottest new concepts, is slated to open at Assembly Row in Somerville on Saturday, September 11. The new space is a do-it-yourself photography studio where visitors can access lighting, creative backdrops and vignettes to create more than 30 unique photos in one visit. Selfie WRLD offers interactive installations designed as backdrops for photographs.
The local team includes Jerome Wilson, Emiel Barbosa and Daniela Martinez who discovered the concept via TikTok and knew that it would create excitement in the Boston area.
“We knew that Selfie WRLD would be perfect for this market with so many creatives and influencers constantly looking for content,” said Martinez, who will also act as General Manager for Selfie WRLD. “At the same time, it is a fun destination for friends, colleagues and families who enjoy creating fun pictures and sharing experiences.”
The adventure at Selfie WRLD takes you through various looks which may include, but not limited to, a candy shop, diner, Vogue booth, ball pit pool, swings, phone booth and so much more. The Assembly Row location will have unique, customized spaces including a Boston Celtics-inspired custom basketball room, #BostonBae neon sign, rainbow seesaw, steel/ reflective room, “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”-inspired room and a “Revospin” room for 360-degree videos.
General admission is $25 for a 1-hour time slot, $15 for kids up to 12 and it is free for kids up to 2 years old. Ring Lights are available for rent to enhance the images, and changing rooms are open for quick outfit changes. The space is also available to rent out for team bonding, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and corporate events.
The founder and CEO of Selfie WRLD, Ashley Wilkerson, is a cancer survivor and a long-time professional photographer. She sold her home at the beginning of the pandemic and used some of the money to create the first Selfie WRLD in Des Moines, Iowa. She created something similar to a photography studio, but one that amateurs could use too. From there, it has grown exponentially throughout the United States.
