Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Somerville Chief of Police Charles Femino have confirmed that Edson Moreno, 26, of Somerville, is under arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday night in Somerville.

Yesterday, at approximately 5:44 p.m., Somerville police received a 911 call reporting that a man had been shot inside a two-family home on Ware Street. Upon arrival, police observed Edson Moreno outside the residence with a handgun in his hand. At the direction of the police, Moreno placed the gun on the ground.

When police subsequently entered the residence, they located the victim, identified as Robert Favreau, 22 of Cambridge, inside, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. First aid was rendered on the scene, but Favreau was eventually pronounced dead inside the home.

The preliminary investigation into this incident revealed that Moreno was a resident of the Ware Street home and that the victim had been staying with him inside the house for several months. Tonight the victim and the defendant allegedly got into a verbal altercation that escalated to a point where the defendant shot the victim.

Edson Moreno has now been charged with armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and possession of a firearm. He will be arraigned in Somerville District Court, Thursday, July 15.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Somerville Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. Additional charges are expected.

I wonder how the DSA/ORS candidate running for the Ward 7 City Council seat will continue pushing her “defund the police” position to the residents of the community. At this point, defund the police position has officially jumped the shark.
