A Book a Day
Hard shiny cover
Cracking of the spine
As pages see the light
Off white paper
Dark black words
Ink filling the page
Musty aroma
Dust filling the air
An old bookmark
Falls to the floor
Pink faded paper
Was once red
Words across the top
“Pick up a good book”
The tape on the spine
Rough on my fingers
Barely holding on to
The loose binding
A long story
A woman on a train
Passing her old house
Watching the neighbors
Another woman
Has gone missing
Kidnapped
Dead
Pulls me in
As I sit
In my large blue chair
Under a lamp
Shining yellow light
Down onto
The ink filled pages
