Class up at the High School for evening school starts soon – registration has begun and will continue, one particular course that is being offered is the Real Estate license course which will start in February. The Adult Educational Classes up at the High School are a great opportunity for many residents to take various classes and the cost is very minimal. Go any evening from 6pm on to the office at the High School and register.

Apparently newly-elected US Senator Scott Brown is a member of the Lions – and the local club here in Somerville has extended an invitation to him to come and visit – no exact date has been reported yet of when he will be coming, but looks good for it to happen, we will keep you posted.

We heard that their were some complaints from businesses in the Union Square/Bow Street area about loss of revenue, some are suggesting that maybe the existing dog park might be converted to parking for businesses. Are businesses and people across the city as upset?

***************

While were on the subject of taxes and fines, we heard that people are being fined for their rubbish in bags, in their own yards. Apparently some have told us that the person working for the city, while on the property of the violation, takes pictures.

Congratulations we hear goes out to local Attorney Ann Vigorito, who is extremely popular here in Somerville, who may have gotten engaged recently – if it's true, we are all very happy for her, she's not only a nice lady, but a brilliant attorney who will go places.

***************

Our condolences go out to the Zonghetti Family for the recent loss of their dad Joseph also nicked named "Barney" this past week. Many of us knew him from when he used to visit Goodtimes when his son Ray worked there – he was a nice guy.

The list of possible candidates for the special Senate seat recently vacated by Anthony Gallucio is climbing, now we hear more then one candidate from Cambridge is considering the run. Again, we're waiting on our own Maryann Heuston to decide whether to run – if she gets in she will be a good candidate. We got an email from an Attorney in Charlestown who is running – his name is Daniel C Hill.

The Annual Meeting of SCAT will be on Jan. 28th from 6pm to 8pm – guests will include Sen. Pat Jehlen, Rep. Denise Provost and special guest Anita Walker, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Awards will be given out to winners in various categories.

The annual Somerville High School musical is coming up in February, this year its "Beauty and the Beast" – three performances will be held – on Feb 4th, Feb 5th and Feb 6th tickets are $7.00 for adults and $6.00 for elderly and children under age 12, which can be purchased at the door or by calling Producer Rosemary Sears at 617 625-6600 x 6109.

They are also looking for businesses to help defray the cost to buy an ad in their ad book – you can call her to place and ad.

This will be the last week in Somerville for our Chief of Police Anthony Holloway and his lovely wife Andra – they will be moving down to Clearwater this coming weekend and he will be starting his new job as the Chief of Police for Clearwater FL We here, along with everyone that they have come in contact with, will agree – we wish them the best of luck and a big thank you for the pleasure of knowing you these past two years.

We've been mentioning this before and apparently not enough – why are there two people behind a counter at Dunkin Donuts, if one is to just take the money and the other to just make your coffee, why isn't the one making it wearing a plastic glove? They press down on the cover and all sorts of germs then get on the cover, which we drink from. Just ask for a cover not pressed down by them – ask for the cover so you can do it.

***************

Great news for the city and the school kids down in East Somerville – finally the road should be clear to start re-building the school from that horrible fire back two years ago. Thanks to Mayor Curtatone and Superintendent Pierantozzi, the money for the new school is on its way and work will begin shortly.

****************

Nice to see our own Bob Publicover back out and about here in the city – he actually looks great considering all the treatments he had. You can tell when Bob is doing better, his attitude and strange sense of humor comes back…

***************

We are getting all sorts of signals from various corners about our own state house delegation that this 'Scott Brown' wave might have in the next election season. We keep hearing about a candidate in Medford posing herself against our Senator Jehlen. We will keep you posted.

***************
We want to wish a very happy birthday greeting to Somerville's new Police Chief Michael Cabral who just turned 47 years old on Tuesday. He's a great guy and is going to be a great chief!
