Poet Ann Macey writes: “I grew up in northern Ohio. I studied English and received my degree from Smith College. I read poetry at The Out of the Blue Gallery. There I was befriended by Deborah M. Priestly. I attended readings in her home. In February, I came back to this area. I had been tutoring writing to adults on Cape Ann.”

Word Portraits

M. Ann Macey

I came earthbound, yet
winter begins pearly grey,
heavenward-I leave

The last streaks of light
cut the dark, pierce the night
woods in late autumn.

November sunlit.
So strange for this time of year.
Trees, streets, path walkway.

Embrace the sunset
nightfall over the water
A candle flickers.

Light from the windows
Illuminates the days now
Autumn in the park

— M. Ann Macey
