The Somerville Little League had their annual tryouts this past weekend at Cousens Gym on the Tufts University campus. The league is off to a great start with an energetic young President who is doting his "i"s and crossing "t"s to ensure a successful and safe ball season for the kids here in Somerville to enjoy. To contact the Somerville Little League to help with donations for financial help, contact the League or its President – Dominic Pefine – who also is a Somerville Police Officer, by calling 617-849-8478 or email dominic_pefine@somervillelittleleague.org or visit their web site at www.somervillelittleleague.org

Don't forget tonight, Wednesday, March 24th, is the kick off first meeting for the newly formed "Cambridge Lion's Club" at the Mount Vernon Restaurant on Broadway at 6:15pm. The new club is hosted by the Somerville Lion's Club and it's President, our own Billy Tauro. Cambridge hasn't had a Lion's Club for many years until now! It's history in the making, so come on down and check it out! Membership applications for both Somerville and Cambridge Lion's Clubs will be on hand as well as a scrumptious dinner tonight for $15pp.

We hear that Washington Street is getting a facelift in the very near future. New trees have been ordered and new street lights that match the ones recently installed on Somerville Avenue are slated to be installed. Even a newly paved road is in the works for the rundown, old main drag. We hear that popular Ward One Alderman Bill Roche is working hard as usual and diligent to get the job done, of course – he's one of the hardest workers, so we know it will be done.

Is that body shop behind the High School at it again? We hear complaints pouring into City Hall from neighboring residents demanding action from their elected officials to address the complaints of smashed up auto body customers' vehicles parked along Medford Street creating a hazardous situation for residents of that neighborhood. Residents just want the shop to keep their business within and on their own property.

Congratulations to a very good friend of our here at Newstalk, Boston Police Officer Tommy Yung and his lovely wife Linda, who recently gave birth to a set of twin boys named Aiden and Austin – Aiden weighed in at 3 lbs 10 oz and Austin at 2 lbs 7 oz – they were born last week. We wish them well and hopefully have a lot of diapers on hand, we think they will need it.

Congratulations to local resident Judy Podymaitis, who was recently appointed Grand Chaplain to the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star in Massachusetts. Judy and her husband are very active and involved here in Somerville with the local Chapter of Eastern Star and they both work very hard, congratulations to Judy we wish her he best.

Don't forget the Spring Open House for the Masonic Lodges here in Somerville is this Saturday from 10am to 3pm at 125 Highland Avenue (rear). Both King Solomon's Lodge, which owns the building, and Somerville Lodge officers will be present. A tour of the building and some of the historic regalia will be on display, along with the precious Paul Revere officers jewels which were made for the officers and presented to the lodge in 1783 by Paul Revere himself who later became Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts. Stop by and ask any questions you might have regarding the order. Presently there are approximately 500 Masons who live here in Somerville.

Should Somerville consider what New York City is doing regarding parking tickets? It appears that NYC is providing a grace period – according to a NYC statistical survey, over 250,000 people receive parking meter violations within five minutes after their meter expires – so, they will be allowing those people who get ticked within five minutes after their meter expires a chance to insert money into a parking kiosk to immediately pay to replenish that overdue parking meter and it gives a printout of the time stamped receipt and makes it possible to overturn that parking ticket. Wouldn't that be great for all of us who swear that the meter person is hiding behind a tree ready to pounce on your car with a ticket???

So we now have National Health Care…whether you like it or not – this was supposed to help us with a reduction in costs for us. So, has anyone noticed that the Cambridge Health Alliance now has its own Police Force? What's that all about? Another way to waste money? Because if you can figure out what they do that the regular police doesn't, please let us know. Is this another reason why health care costs have gone up – or just a means for someone to have a job…

How does everyone like those huge signs in Magoun Square that are cemented into the ground announcing that our "Stimulus" money is at work – what is it exactly that the Stimulus money is working on? Those signs have to cost at least $2,000, maybe $3,000 apiece – just to announce a project that is coming? Haven't they been up almost a year already?
