Weather permitting, City contractors will need to return to Thorndike St., between Howard St. and the Community Path, on Thursday, January 10, to make upgrades to drain pipes as part of the Somerville Community Path Drainage & Retaining Wall Upgrades Project. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
During that time, contractors will use a process called cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining to provide a new, jointless pipe that minimizes root and water infiltration problems, improves flow, and provides a more structurally sound pipe without the need for excavation work. Please expect alternating traffic at the Howard St. / Thorndike St. intersection during work hours. Please also note that certain phases of the lining operation may produce a plastic- or glue-like odor. This is a normal side effect of CIPP lining generated from the liner curing process.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we complete this necessary upgrade to our City’s aging underground infrastructure. If you have any questions, please call the Engineering Department at 617-625-6600 ext. 5400 or 311/617-666-3311.
