Envious

Sure, I’ve had some nice finds, but I get envious when I read about these people…

The lady who bought a ring at a flea market in England for 10 pounds. She wore it for a few decades not knowing it was a 26 carat nearly flawless diamond. Once she found out, she sold it for $848,000.

The ever popular metal detector finds. People finding nuggets of gold weighing several kilos. I’ve actually found jewelry made from gold nuggets in the local junk stores. Nothing close to a kilo though. Still fun to find.

The people who “just bought a house and find this amazing artifact in the attic.”  And then they call the TV stations to blab about it to everyone and get caught up in a lawsuit with the former property owners. Am I the only one shouting “Shut Up!” Enjoy your find quietly, pay off your house, your student loans and move on.

The guy who found a Gibson J-160E guitar at a second-hand store, played it for a while then decided to sell it. It sold for $2.4 million dollars US because it once belonged to John Lennon and he wrote a bunch of songs on it. Go figure.

The one that makes me most envious? The State of Massachusetts will open your safety deposit boxes at your bank if you don’t touch them for a while. Wow, I’d like to get in on that scam. They keep the cash and sell off the other stuff. How hard is it in this day to track people down? They sell it on eBay. You should see the stuff that makes it to the site.
