Somerville has a hero. Hats off and much applauds to local guy Ray Snow Jr. of Somerville Plumbing Co., for his quick thinking that helped save a fellow boater’s life Sunday. Ray, a member of the Winter Hill Yacht Club, was out on the Boston Harbor aboard his boat the “Mi Di” when he noticed a boat on fire in the distance and the boat’s occupant in the water. Ray steamed full speed ahead over to the boater that was in distress and with the help of his own passenger Lewis Bacon, plucked the cold, wet 74-year-old Lexington man from the frigid harbor waters onto his boat until the police arrived.

We heard that Dennis Sullivan has gone over to the other side: the dark side. Apparently Dennis is throwing a house party for Senator Pat the Queen a founder of the local progressive clique at his home in Ten Hills. Is Dennis thinking of running for higher office? Let’s call this a coffee party definitely not a tea party. There is a difference, a Tea Party would be for lower taxes and fees and a coffee party would be for higher taxes and more spending, since he’s throwing it for the longtime incumbent senator, who we heard has voted for every single tax proposed, including raising our sales and liquor tax.

The Dapper Dan’s reunion that was held at the Holiday Inn last Saturday night was a huge success, a couple of hundred  people showed up, former employees and patrons of the well known eatery back in the 1980’s here in Somerville.

The Holiday Inn we hear has new owners and will soon be shutting down their nightclub lounge “Night Games” for a short time while they renovate and give it a new face lift. We’re going to miss seeing that nightclub’s shining star Manager Maureen Minichello, she’ll be back when the club re-opens.

It’s getting close to Election Day. On November 2, whatever your leanings, it’s important that we all vote, every single vote counts. If you can’t go out to vote then call the election department and ask for an absentee ballot, it’s a very important right we have as American citizens. Should mean more since we live here in Massachusetts with so much history. Paul Revere, while riding to alert the colonists that the British were coming, rested his horse at the corner of Main and Broadway (smallest national park in the US). These and other historical events happened right here, we owe it to our forefathers to go and vote our government.

So last Thursday at Michael’s Bar in lower Broadway, state senate candidate Dave Carnevale  (www.votedavid2010.com) had a successful meet and greet, thrown by some local “tea party members.” We hear he managed to raise quite a bit of money and meet everyone. We hear that the local Tea Party movement just might take hold after the elections here in Somerville, sort of a gathering of people who are for lower taxes and less government.

The ever popular Ward 1 Alderman Bill Roche had a jammed pack fund raiser this week, at Vinny’s on Lower Broadway. We hear that about 150 friends, and supporters were on hand to thank him for all his hard work that he does for East Somerville. He’s not one of those ward aldermen that spends all his time on silly federal issues; he’s concerned about his ward and his constituents and he has showed it over the years.
