Police arrested an Ossippee Street woman after officers allegedly saw her removing screens from windows and trying to break into a Cottage Avenue apartment Wednesday afternoon.

Police said residential break-ins have increased in recent weeks. Farrah Manning, 34, of 55 Ossippee St., was arrested and charged with attempt to commit a crime after police allegedly saw her on a fire escape trying to lift a window open.

As police tried to reach Manning she allegedly fled toward the intersection of Chester and Herbert streets where she was apprehended by police.

A witness told police he saw Manning try to open the home's front doors and looking into the home through windows and the mail slot, police said.

Police are advising residents to lock outside doors and windows as break-ins increase.
