Police officers were dispatched to a Walnut St. location last Thursday on reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, the officers approached an unoccupied vehicle stopped in the middle of the street, which had damage to the passenger side front bumper.

A group of bystanders directed the officers to the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Tyrone Silva.

The officers asked Silva what had happened and he reportedly told them, “I was driving down the street and I hit two cars. I will be honest with you, I’m intoxicated.”

While speaking with Silva, the officers noticed he had glassy, blood shot eyes, slurred speech, and they detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.

Silva was asked if he in fact consumed any alcohol that evening. Silva reportedly told the officers that he drank two beers and five nips. He was then asked to perform a series of field sobriety tests, but he refused to do so.

According to reports, Silva told the officers, “I’m not going to lie, I’m intoxicated. I could have run if I wanted to and you never would have found me. I stayed to do the right thing.”

Based on Silva’s statements and the officers’ observations, Silva was placed under arrest for operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor.

A query of the vehicle’s license plate showed that it was stolen out of Brockton. A query of the VIN revealed that the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured. The vehicle was subsequently towed and impounded.

After Silva was transported to the police station for booking, further inquiries uncovered outstanding warrants out of Dorchester District Court for uninsured motor vehicle or trailer, number plate violation to conceal ID, and unregistered motor vehicle.
