This Sunday, May 30 at 1 p.m., the Memorial Day parade starts at City Hall and winds through the city, as folks march up Highland through Davis up to Teele ending at North and Broadway. Every year it gets bigger and bigger and this year is no different, we hear that it's the biggest one yet. Much thanks and appreciation to the Head of Veterans Services Frank Senesi who has worked hard to raise money in the private sector to pay for it. You see him in the parade say hi and thank him; we are big fans of him and his department.

Somerville may be eying a new playground layout for adults to get fit. It's a craze that's catching on across the country, a park for adults with playground quality exercise equipment. Most of these parks come complete with rowing treadmills and skiing machines.

The couple is here in Somerville to visit their sister city club, The Somerville Lion's. Welcome to Somerville guys. Speaking of the Lions Club our own Billy Tauro was installed for a second term this past Saturday as King Lion and President. They don't want to let him go, he brings excitement and he's been huge in membership department as well.

Attention local businesses, don't forget to call City Hall if you have a job for one of our local kids for the summer, in today's economy it's tough out there but helping a local youth with summer employment is always a good thing.

Wow, seems like there's a local Somerville police officer out there who has no idea of loyalty and what it means. Apparently, the News was good for him when he was in need but now it's a different story altogether. Must be the Generation Y thing, or is it Generation X? Loyalty to some is only a word, for others it's defined by deeds. Just thinking out loud.

Big budget fall, again millions of dollars short this year, maybe some jobs will be lost….but did you see what the one city union in Quincy did this past week, they delayed their pay raises for another year saving Quincy about $2 million. That's selfless.

The Taste of Somerville is coming on Tuesday June 8 at the Holiday Inn at 5:30 p.m. The city's best restaurants will be there, so you can see and taste their foods. This event is sponsored by the Chamber and over the years has been a huge success. We know we're going – and we're bringing a big appetite.

Senator Pat, the Queen of the Progressives, has a challenger and yes he's a Republican and from Medford. David Carnevale will be on the ballot for November 3, and already Queen Pat has tried to paint him as a Tea Party person which is fine. He doesn't care about Queen Pat's ugly mudslinging. Like so many of the left wingers, Pat wants you to think badly about people who are moderate and not as leftist as the Progressives. David has a Web site, www.votedavid2010.com, check it out and read all about him and make up your own mind. We're happy he is in the race; hopefully it will finally bring some real debate on the issues up. Not just name calling from Queen Pat. And if you think David Carnevale does not have a chance, just remember one thing, when Senator Charlie Shannon first ran he was a Republican and he ran against a far left wing incumbent and defeated him. In the months ahead we will bring both sides of the issue and you decide if it's time to remove entrenched Beacon Hill incumbents from office or continue with business as usual at the State House. We're excited about the November 3 election ourselves — we see change coming.
